Group meeting. Finite elements versus meshless.

We discussed today based on a simple example the basics of Galerkin methods and showed how FEM and Meshless methods differed.

We derived the weak form from the strong form and showed how the condition of admissibility of the test functions could be violated

There cannot be any conclusion to the superiority of one method over another in general. But one conclusion today was that, said crudely, the fact that discrete spaces inherit structure from the infinite spaces the trial and test functions provide the FEM with a more readily analysable framework
